CloseThis guitar is being sold as a PROJECT. We're not exactly sure what year or model this Gretsch happens to be and it has been heavily modified, and wears an old refinish, which makes any identification very difficult.
First off, this guitar has had a gloss black refinish at some point a while ago; there are plenty of scuffs, light scratches, and finish checking all over the instrument. Unfortunately during the refinish, the F-holes were not masked so the inside of the body has quite a bit of black overspray present, which has covered the original label which shows the model and serial numbers, and this information is no longer discernable. There are some stamped numbers between the tuners on the back of the headstock as well, but these are illegible as well.
It seems that this guitar originally only had a neck pickup, more than likely a Filtertron/Dynasonic or Dogear. The neck humbucker has had it's mounting tabs trimmed down, and mounts directly to the body using the original pickup route. The bridge humbucker is somehow secured directly to the top of the body, more than likely glued, as there is no route here for a pickup. The pickup rings for both pickups are for looks only, and neither pickup heights are adjustable. The switch, pots, and jack have all been added as well, and there is not a body ground attached, so the guitar is a bit noisy when it's plugged in.
The body binding seems to be made of a different material than the neck binding, which may mean that the neck binding may have been replaced or added. This guitar also has oddball triple dot inlays, which may not be original. The bridge, pickguard, tailpiece, and tuners are not original either. The headstock badging is odd as well, and almost seems like a Gretsch headstock inlay has been removed and glued directly to the face of the headstock.
Overall, this is a bit of an oddball project, but it's a super cool vintage player.
Fretwear
This guitar only has some moderate wear on the first few frets. Plays great. Frets and fingerboard could use a quick cleanup during the next restring.
Action
Action is medium and playable, but may require a quick tweak to your liking.
Electronics
This guitar has had some oddball electronic mods (details above) and the pickups are not labeled with a brand or model. The control layout is a bit odd as well, and is arranged similarly to a Rickenbacker 330 but with the neck and bridge controls reversed. This guitar also needs a body ground added. All electronics work properly and sound great.
Case
Unbranded hardshell case included.
